DO I HAVE TO SERVE ON A JURY IF ASKED?

Statue of Lady Liberty

In most cases, yes, you have a legal obligation to serve on a jury if you are asked to do so. In the United States, failure to respond to a jury summons or to appear for jury duty can result in fines or even imprisonment. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, some individuals may be excused from jury duty due to certain disqualifications, such as a previous conviction, or hardship, like a medical condition.
